Social Media Names: 3 Steps Future Business Owners Can Do Now
When we were thinking about starting a business, we decided to come up with a unique business name that would not only set our brand apart from the rest but also be available on all social media platforms and as a domain.
Here are 3 steps you can take to make sure you have a unique business name that no one else is already using.
1. Do a Domain Search
Go to a domain provider and search for the name you would like to use. First we went to GoDaddy.com and made sure the domain was available. You will need to decide if you want to use .com, .org, .info, etc. Using .com is preferred over all of the rest and we will blog about the differences between those domain extensions later.
2. Create an Email Address
Many businesses are now using an email provider for their business such as Yahoo or Google (gmail). We recommend securing your business email address with all of the popular email providers. For example, our email address is email@example.com. Create your business email address and use it to sign up for all of you social media pages.
3. Select Consistent Social Media Handles
Try to get the same name or handle on all of the major social media platforms such as Facebook (e.g. @queenofclutches or www.facebook.com/queenofclutches), Instagram (e.g. www.instagram.com/queenofclutches), YouTube, Periscope, SnapChat, Pinterest, etc.
Consistency is professional. Make sure your domain name, email address and social media handles are all the same. This helps customers to remember your information. It may be a while before you actually open your business but if you have a good name in mind, it is a good idea to go ahead and secure it. Park it to the side until you are ready to open your business and make it known online to potential customers.
